If a friend were to ask you, “What is your purpose in life?” what would your answer be? Would this question confuse you, frighten you, or would it encourage you?
This question shouldn’t scare you but rather this question should encourage you! As a believer, we know what our purpose in life is! Our purpose, as children of God, is to live a life that proclaims His name and who He is to those around us. Our lives are walking examples of who Christ is. If He is alive and living inside of you then His love and joy will radiate through your life.
One of my favorite examples of this is through the life of Priscilla. She was woman who allowed God to use her in any way He would see fit. While we don’t know a whole lot about her life what we do know is she found her purpose in life through loving and serving her Creator.
Our Purpose In Life Is..
Loving the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength is our purpose in life! He calls us to honor and glorify Him in all we are doing. As we walk with Him, glean from Him, communicate with Him, and fellowship with Him, then will our purpose be fulfilled. Our purpose isn’t about earthy achievements but rather about praising and glorifying our Heavenly Father!
When my heart is steadfast for Him and my eyes are gazed towards His, then nothing in this world will ever be able to draw me away. The question about our purpose in life isn’t supposed to scare us but to anchor us in our walk with God! This doesn’t mean trials and tribulations won’t come our way but He gives us the ability to turn our trials into triumphs and our tribulations into testimonies.
Purpose In Everyday Life
Priscilla served alongside her husband, Aquila, during the days of the early church as written in Acts. She isn’t the type of woman who just sat around doing nothing or just stayed at home. No. Priscilla was a woman who pursed a life filled to the fullest! Ministry, marriage, career, mentor, and friend; all of these qualities describe the life Priscilla led.
As I read the example of Priscilla one word came to mind; zeal. When I picture a zealous woman of God, I like to picture a massive campfire; when the fire is stoked and wood is continually added the flame grows brighter but when it’s not stoked and no more wood is added, then the fire slowly begins to die down until it is only ashes. The reason this picture comes to mind is a woman who is zealous for the Lord is one who is continually adding to her faith and growing. However, if I choose to just leave my faith as it is and not choose to grow in the Lord, then I am giving my faith the opportunity to burn out like the ashes.
A woman who is passionate about serving and following the Lord is the kind of woman I desire to emulate. I want to be a woman who is known by her walk with the Lord more than anything else I do. I’m sure you want the same!! Is there a woman in your life who strongly encourages you to become more and more like Christ? Well, then talk with her! Ask her to help you in your walk, allow her to encourage you, and glean from her wisdom.
There will never be a day when we will have it all together but that isn’t what Christ call us to do. He call us to follow Him each and everyday!
“But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” -Exodus 9:16
“Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” -2 Timothy 1:9
