I am so happy to introduce our guest blogger, Alexis Reddy! She is just the sweetest soul! I met her last January while we were both speaking together at an event and we became friends. She is a wife, a mother, a woman of Christ, and of course, a fashionista! Her tips and tricks will help you to dress modest and trendy as well! :)This is a Q & A that I did with Alexis:
1. Why Is Modesty Important To You & What Made You Want To Dress Modestly?
When I was young and in high school and even a couple years after it was so very important to me to fit in. That meant doing all the things the “popular” people were doing, which meant dressing a certain way, dating a certain way, and even having a certain group of friends. This was an absolutely sinful way of thinking, and I am thankful the Lord convicted me of those sins and called me to repentance. After that, I saw it was important to dress in a way that was truly honoring to God. This didn’t mean I had to abandon my personal style or stop being creative with my wardrobe, I just needed to be mindful of what my clothing was saying, or not saying.
In order to truly express my honest opinion on the subject of modesty I’m going to share a quote from a sermon that impacted me greatly a couple years ago by John Piper:
“One practical implication of this is that public nudity today is not a return to innocence but rebellion against moral reality. God ordains clothes to witness to the glory we have lost, and it is added rebellion to throw them off. And for those who rebel in the other direction and make clothes themselves a means of power and prestige and attention getting, God’s answer is not a return to nudity but a return to simplicity (1 Timothy 2:9-10; 1 Peter 3:4-5). Clothes are not meant to make people think about what is under them. Clothes are meant to direct attention to what is not under them: merciful hands that serve others in the name of Christ, beautiful feet that carry the gospel where it is needed, and the brightness of a face that has beheld the glory of Jesus.”
In today’s day in age it is considered brave, bold, and even a sign of confidence to show more skin. I truly believe the exact opposite to be true. Dressing modestly is a sign of self control, humility, and as a believer comes wrapped in the realization that you are a beautiful creation made in the image of God to glorify Him!
2. Do you have any tips or tricks to find modest clothes?
You can honestly find modest clothing anywhere! It comes down to how you style said pieces. For instance I have a crop top, but I only wear it with high waist bottoms to avoid midriff exposure.
